Men's Lacrosse: Marcotte earns first GNAC Player of the Week honor, lands on NEILA Team of the Week; Dils, Rainis named Honor Roll

WINTHROP, Mass. - After a dominant 2-0 week and a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinal victory, Norwich University men's lacrosse sophomore attacker Jake Marcotte (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) has been named GNAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Marcotte was also selected to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division III Team of the Week, becoming the second Cadet to earn the regional recognition this season after Drew Fleury (Nashua, N.H.) landed on the team twice earlier this spring.

Junior goalkeeper Mason Dils (Watervliet, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Christian Rainis (Wynantskill, N.Y.) also earned spots on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.

Marcotte's GNAC Player of the Week honor is the first of his career after previously earning GNAC Rookie of the Week recognition on Apr. 7, 2025.  He becomes Norwich's first GNAC Player of the Week selection since Rainis earned the honor on Mar. 17, 2025.

The sophomore led Norwich with 12 points on seven goals and five assists across the two victories, helping the Cadets close the regular season with a 19-1 win over Colby-Sawyer College before rolling past fourth-seeded Emmanuel College, 19-5, in Saturday's GNAC Quarterfinal.

Marcotte opened the week with five points on two goals and three assists against Colby-Sawyer, reaching the 100-point mark for his collegiate career as Norwich closed conference play with one of its most complete performances of the season.

He followed with a dominant postseason outing at Emmanuel, scoring five goals and adding two assists for a seven-point performance as the fifth-seeded Cadets advanced to the GNAC Semifinals.  Marcotte struck just 32 seconds into the quarterfinal and remained central to Norwich's offensive rhythm throughout the contest, helping power an attack that scored 38 goals over two games.

For the week, Marcotte shot 50.0 percent from the field, placed eight shots on goal, and continued to serve as one of Norwich's most reliable offensive catalysts during the team's postseason push.

Rainis also delivered a high-impact week, totaling eight points on seven goals and one assist while making his presence felt on both ends of the field.  He scored twice in the win over Colby-Sawyer before erupting for five goals and one assist in the quarterfinal victory at Emmanuel.

Defensively, Rainis added four caused turnovers, all coming in Saturday's postseason win, as Norwich held the Saints to five goals and controlled the game from start to finish.

Dils rounded out Norwich's GNAC honorees after anchoring the Cadets in goal.  The junior played 75 minutes across the two contests, allowing just five goals while posting a 4.00 goals-against average and a .722 save percentage.

After starting the regular-season finale against Colby-Sawyer and holding the Chargers scoreless in his 15 minutes of action, Dils turned in a standout performance against Emmanuel, making 13 saves across a full 60 minutes to help send Norwich through to the semifinal round.

The Cadets will travel to top-seeded Rivier University on Wednesday, Apr. 29, for a 7:30 p.m. GNAC Semifinal matchup in Nashua, N.H.
