Men's Tennis: #2E Norwich University vs. #3E SUNY Delhi - Empire 8 Quarterfinal Preview

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team will open postseason play on Saturday, Apr. 25, hosting East Division #3 SUNY Delhi in the First Round of the 2026 Empire 8 Men's Tennis Championship Tournament at 11:00 a.m. inside Shapiro Fieldhouse.

Norwich enters the postseason as the East Division's second seed after putting together another historic regular season, finishing 12-3 overall and 4-1 in Empire 8 play.  The Cadets will look to build on that strong body of work as they chase a return trip to the conference semifinals and continue what has already become one of the strongest seasons in program history.

The Empire 8 tournament format features the top three teams from each division, with the top seed in each division receiving an opening-round bye. Saturday's matchup pairs the East Division's No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, with the winner advancing to face West Division champion St. John Fisher University in the semifinals on Friday, May 1.  The semifinals and championship match will be hosted by East Division top seed Thomas College on May 1 and 2, with the conference champion earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Norwich has leaned on depth and consistency throughout the season.  Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) has delivered a standout campaign at No. 2 singles, posting a 10-2 record, while Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine) has anchored the top of the lineup with an 8-3 mark at No. 1 singles.  The duo has also been a steady force in doubles, combining for an 8-3 record at the No. 1 flight.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Stephen Hartigan (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Juan Gonzalez Torres (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) have continued to play major roles in both singles and doubles competition, while Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.), Reynard Gan (Chandler, Ariz.), Pierce Rohm (Queensbury, N.Y.), and others have helped Norwich secure key points throughout the spring.  That overall balance has been one of the Cadets' defining strengths, particularly in tight matches.

SUNY Delhi enters the tournament at 7-8 overall and 3-2 in Empire 8 East play, earning the division's third seed while riding a three-match winning streak into postseason action.  The Broncos have been led by junior Devin Guerreri and freshman standout Luke Moloney, who each own seven singles victories on the year.  Moloney was especially effective in conference action, posting a 4-1 mark while primarily competing at fifth singles.

The two teams are already familiar with one another after meeting twice on Apr. 4 in Delhi, N.Y., where Norwich earned a pair of hard-fought 4-3 victories.  In the conference meeting, the Cadets established the early advantage by sweeping doubles play, which ultimately proved decisive.  Redmond and Bayly-Henshaw each collected singles wins, while Rohm delivered the clinching point at No. 6 singles in a comeback three-set effort.

The second match later that afternoon unfolded differently, with SUNY Delhi taking the doubles point before Norwich responded with a composed singles showing.  Redmond again set the tone at the top of the lineup, Bayly-Henshaw added another win at No. 2, and Teluk and Lily Walker (Marstons Mills, Mass.) provided the additional points needed to complete the second 4-3 decision of the day.

Norwich has had success against Delhi, including an 8-1 win in last year's Empire 8 First Round.

The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the Empire 8 Semifinals on Friday, May 1, to face West Division #1 St. John Fisher University at Thomas College. The Empire 8 Championship match is scheduled for Saturday, May 2.
