PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Norwich women's ice hockey completed a sweep of Little East Conference (LEC) weekly awards for the week ending Jan. 25, as
Breanna Ricker (Laconia, N.H.) and
Geena Cookinham (Gilmanton, N.H.) repeated as Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, while
Madison Brunet (Timmins, Ont.) earned Goalie of the Week honors.
Ricker and Cookinham continued to fuel the Cadet offense in a marquee weekend, combining on the decisive tallies in Norwich's win over No. 2 Amherst. Ricker set up Cookinham for the eventual game-winning goal in the second period, before Cookinham returned the favor by assisting on Ricker's empty-net goal to clinch the victory. The duo continues to pace the LEC, ranking at or near the top of the conference in every significant offensive category.
Brunet anchored the Cadets defensively, turning aside 25 shots to record a shutout against Amherst, her sixth of the season. The senior currently leads the LEC in goals-against average (0.85) and is tied for first in save percentage (.945). The performance marked Brunet's third straight individual shutout and extended Norwich's shutout streak to five consecutive games as a team.
The honor represents the first weekly award of Brunet's four-year career. At the same time, Ricker collected her third Player of the Week nod, and Cookinham earned her fourth weekly honor, including her third Rookie of the Week recognition.
The Cadets will look to keep rolling when they travel to New England College for a weekend series on Jan. 30–31.
