NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich women's ice hockey continued to collect Little East Conference (LEC) weekly honors as
Breanna Ricker (Laconia, N.H.) was named Player of the Week and
Geena Cookinham (Gilmanton, N.H.) earned Rookie of the Week recognition for the week ending Jan. 18.
The New Hampshire native linemates delivered a dominant weekend against Keene State, combining for 11 points to power the Cadets' sweep of the Owls.
Ricker drove the Norwich offense throughout the weekend, highlighted by an explosive performance in Friday's contest. The junior forward scored two goals during a six-goal second period and added three assists to record a career-high five points, becoming the 20th player in program history to post five points or more game. Ricker added a power-play goal and an assist in Saturday's victory to cap a seven-point week and currently leads the LEC in goals (11). The honor marks Ricker's second Player of the Week award of the season after first earning the accolade in November following her first career hat trick against the Owls.
Cookinham earned Rookie of the Week honors after recording the first hat trick of her collegiate career in Friday's win. The first-year forward scored in both the opening and closing minutes of the second period before adding a power-play goal in the third. Cookinham also assisted on Ricker's first goal of the game and finished the weekend with four points. She currently leads all LEC rookies in goals (9) and points (15). The award is Cookinham's third weekly honor of the season and her second Rookie of the Week nod.
The Cadets will look to continue their momentum in their non-conference finale against No. 2 Amherst before returning to LEC play on Jan. 30 at New England College.
