NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) announced its first weekly awards of the 2025 season on Thursday afternoon, with Norwich University sophomore
Rory Nolan (Wadsworth, Ohio) earning Wrestler of the Week honors following a dominant showing at the Cadets' season-opening tri-meet.
Competing at heavyweight, Nolan delivered two standout victories to help propel Norwich to a dual win over New England College (NEC) and a competitive performance against perennial power Springfield.
In the opening bout against NEC, Nolan secured a 7-2 decision over Brandon Lavasta-Torres, giving the Cadets key points en route to a team victory. He followed with a dramatic pinfall win over Springfield's Ben Katz at the 6:59 mark, handling the regionally-ranked fourth seed his first setback of the season.
Nolan becomes the program's first recipient of the award since
Mason Sprinkel '25 on Feb. 2023.
Nolan and the Cadets will return to action at the prestigious Ithaca Invitational on Nov. 7-8. The two-day tournament begins Friday at 2:30 p.m., with competition resuming Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
