HENNIKER, N.H. – The Norwich Men's Wrestling team opened its 2025-26 season on Saturday with a split performance at New England College, earning a 30-15 victory over the host Pilgrims before falling to Springfield College, 24-17.
The Cadets put together a strong showing in their first action of the season, winning seven of 10 bouts against NEC and taking four matches against a talented Springfield squad.

Norwich dominated the opening dual with four bonus-point wins, including three pins.

At 125 pounds, Robbie Lyons (Milford, Mass.) gave the Cadets early momentum with a fall over Dominic Gangi at 5:26. Carvey Moyer (Easton, Pa.) followed with a thrilling 13-11 decision at 133, while Nicholas Berrena (State College, Pa.) made it three straight with a 10-6 win at 141.

After NEC earned a fall at 149, Gannon White (Rincon, Ga.) responded quickly at 157 with a pin in just 2:49 over Joseph Gangi. Jonathan Neypes (Columbia, Md.) continued the run with a 10-7 decision at 165 before NEC took the next two bouts.
Christopher Folsom (Essex, Vt.) sealed the team win with a first-period pin at 1:54 in the 197-pound bout, and Rory Nolan (Wadsworth, Ohio) closed things out with a 7-2 decision at heavyweight.

In the second dual of the day, Norwich battled closely with perennial power Springfield College.

Lyons started fast for the Cadets at 125 pounds, earning a dominant 19-2 technical fall over Hunter Sanchez to open the scoring. After Springfield took the next three bouts to go ahead 11-5, White notched a 15-9 decision at 157, and Neypes followed with a 5-2 win at 165 to tie the match at 11-11.

The Pride responded with wins at 174, 184, and 197 to pull away, but Nolan capped the dual in dramatic fashion, pinning Ben Katz at 6:59 to make the final score 24-17.

After the two duals to open the season, the Cadets will now compete in the two-day Ithaca Invitational on Nov. 7 and 8.
