WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Norwich University Rifle team took on a nationally competitive field Sunday at the United States Military Academy, finishing fourth in a four-team meet hosted by Army. The Cadets posted an aggregate score of 4,381, highlighted by strong smallbore shooting against NCAA Division I programs Nebraska and Kentucky, and Division III foe Mount Aloysius.
Sixth-ranked Nebraska claimed the team title with a 4,747 aggregate (2,369 smallbore / 2,378 air rifle), narrowly edging third-ranked Kentucky's 4,743. Mount Aloysius placed third at 4,556, followed by Norwich's 4,381 (2,150 SB / 2,231 AR).
Leading the Cadets was
Meghan Smith (Georgetown, Texas), who finished with a team-best 1,113 aggregate, including 547 smallbore and 566 air rifle. Smith's smallbore score placed her 24th overall among a deep field dominated by top-ten nationally ranked programs.
