Rifle: Burris, Kontny Earn MAC Shooter of the Week Honors as Cadets Place Third at NCAA Qualifiers

WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Norwich University rifle team delivered its third-highest aggregate score of the season Friday at the NCAA Qualifier hosted by Army West Point, finishing third with a 4374 (2150 SB / 2224 AR) against Army (4686) and MIT (4470).

The strong performance boosted Norwich to No. 26 in the latest NCAA rankings, sitting just behind Schreiner and MIT — both teams the Cadets will face this weekend at the MAC Championships.

The match also doubled as Norwich's final regular-season Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) contest, raising the Cadets' season averages in smallbore, air rifle, and aggregate. Norwich concludes the MAC regular season 4th in Smallbore, 5th in Air Rifle, and 4th in Aggregate.

Two Cadets earned MAC weekly recognition following the performance:

Aiden Burris (Marietta, Ga.) MAC Smallbore Shooter of the Week
Sage Kontny (Clancy, Mont.) MAC Air Rifle Shooter of the Week

Burris led Norwich in smallbore with a 540, while Evan Elders (Spring Hill, Fla.) followed closely at 544, finishing 13th overall in the discipline.
In the air rifle, Kontny paced the Cadets with a 561, tying teammate Katie Gillooly (Woodbridge, Va.) for the team high. Alma Negrete (Fontana, Calif.) added a 560, giving Norwich three shooters at 560 or better in the event.

Kontny posted the team's top aggregate score at 1092 (531 SB / 561 AR), while Elders finished at 1084 (544 SB / 540 AR).

Army claimed the team title behind nine of the top 10 individual aggregate finishers, led by Addison Antwiler's match-best 1176.

Norwich heads to the MAC Championships, hosted by MIT, this weekend, with competition split across two days.

The Cadets will shoot on Relays 2 and 3 in Smallbore on Saturday, followed by Relay 1 in Air Rifle on Sunday.
