NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Norwich University rifle team came up just short on Saturday, falling to the University of Rhode Island 4360–4344 in a tightly contested home dual at Baroffio's Rifle Range
Norwich posted team totals of 2147 in smallbore and 2197 in air rifle, pushing the Rams down to the final relays behind strong individual performances across the lineup.
Freshman
Katie Gillooly (Woodbridge, Va.) led the Cadets in air rifle with a 569, earning Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) Air Rifle Athlete of the Week honors. Gillooly currently ranks 15th in the MAC in air rifle.
Sage Kontny (Clancy, Mont.) continued her steady progress, finishing second on the team in air rifle with a 533 and ranking 23rd in the MAC.
Meghan Smith (Georgetown, Texas) added a 529 in air rifle and currently sits 25th in air rifle and 17th in smallbore in the conference rankings.
In smallbore,
Aiden Burris (Marietta, Ga.) was strong for Norwich, posting a score of 533, good for 14th in the MAC, while
Evan Elders (Spring Hill, Fla.) followed with a 540 score and ranks 15th in smallbore and 30th in air rifle.
Ben Kelley (Niantic, Conn.) added a team best 541, placing him 18th in the MAC in smallbore.
Norwich will hit the road for their next competition when it takes on MIT and the University of Akron in the Beanpot Tournament on Feb. 7.
