Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team valiantly fought Vermont State University Castleton to narrow matches, falling in a competitive 6-3 bout to the Spartans in Shapiro Fieldhouse in non-conference action on Thursday evening.
Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and
Assumpta Nandawula (Bakersfield, Calif.) spurred the day with a dominant 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles, taking down Miki Almirall and Connor Davis. The Cadets battled in the other doubles matchups, as second-flight duo
Matthias Tchantouridze (Montpelier, Vt.) and
Sophia Sevi (Montpelier, Vt.) narrowly fell, 8-5, while
Bennett Oakes (Pawtucket, Conn.) and
Sean Horgan took the third slot to an 8-3 loss.
In singles, Bayly-Henshaw topped Khiem Nguyen in the No. 1 duel, 6-3, 6-3, while Tchantouridze cruised past Davis, 6-1, 6-0, securing two more points on the day. Cramer slipped past Sevi, 6-4, 6-3, while Christian Giannone topped Oakes, 6-0, 6-1.
A pair of super tiebreak showdowns also brought excitement to Shapiro. Nandawula forced a tiebreaker round after cruising past Almirall, 6-0, in the second set in No. 2, but Almirall proved victorious in the third. Horgan and Jason Lipscomb also went back and forth in No. 4 singles before Lipscomb captured victory in the tiebreaker.
The Cadets will host their third-straight match against an intrastate foe, taking on Vermont State University Lyndon on Tuesday, Mar. 26, set for 3:00 p.m.
