NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team topped Vermont State University Johnson, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference clash in Shapiro Fieldhouse.
The Cadets swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches in dominant fashion, cruising to their first victory of the season.
Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and
Matthias Tchantouridze (Montpelier, Vt.) claimed the No. 1 doubles, 8-0, while
Assumpta Nandawula (Bakersfield, Calif.) and
Sophia Sevi (Montpelier, Vt.) took No. 2 doubles, 8-2.Â
Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.) and
Sean Horgan rounded out the doubles with an 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles.
Singles victories also came in quick succession for the Cadets, spurred by Bayly-Henshaw's 6-2, 6-0 wins in No. 1 singles. Tchantouridze captured a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 2 singles.
Nandawula kept the ball rolling with a 6-1, 6-0 romp in No. 3 singles, followed by Sevi and Horgan going 6-0, 6-1 in their No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Teluk rounded out the official victories with 6-0, 6-0 routs to give the Cadets the 9-0 sweep.
Norwich remains undefeated against VTSU Johnson in the last 15 meetings, dating back to the 2012 season.
The Cadets host Vermont State University Castleton on Thursday, Mar. 21, at 3:00 p.m. in Shapiro Fieldhouse in a rematch of Norwich's season-opener.
