WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Norwich University coed rifle team wrapped up the regular season ranked 26th in the nation in only their second season since being reinstated as a varsity program. The Cadets traveled to West Point and competed in the NCAA Qualifying match on Saturday, February 17, 2024, against both Army and MIT.

The match was the final qualifying opportunity for the season and the Cadets were able to complete their third highest score of the season. Between both disciplines, Smallbore and Air Rifle, the Cadets had a 4284 aggregate score on the day. Norwich was led by freshman
Ben Kelley who shot a 1085 combined score (530 Smallbore, 555 Air Rifle). The 1085 was a new career high for Kelley. Sophomore
Aiden Burris, who has been one of the top shooters on the team in almost every match, followed closely behind Kelley. Burris turned in a 1082 total (540 Smallbore, 542 Air Rifle).
Evan Elders (509 Smallbore, 535 Air Rifle) and
Jasmin Mann (522 Smallbore, 522 Air Rifle) tied with a 1044 total.
Jacob Cohn added a new career high score, shooting 538 in Smallbore, while
Brady Simmons turned in a 502 in Air Rifle to complete the scores for the Cadets.
The match concluded the NCAA portion of the season, however the Cadets will take aim at the upcoming MAC Rifle championship. The two day competition will take place February 24-25 at MIT. The Cadets enter the conference championships as the top ranked Smallbore team, fifth placed Air Rifle team, and third in Aggregate score average. The Cadets will need to clear MIT and the University of Rhode Island to win the conference championship.
