NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Norwich University rifle team opened its 2025–26 campaign with a strong performance on Saturday afternoon, narrowly falling to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 4345–4317.

The Cadets outshot the Engineers in smallbore, 2121–2104, but MIT's edge in air rifle, 2241–2196, proved to be the difference in the overall aggregate.
Aiden Burris (Marietta, Ga.) led Norwich in smallbore with a score of 538, finishing second overall in the discipline, while Meghan Smith (Georgetown, Texas) followed closely behind in third with a 536.

In air rifle, Smith paced Norwich once again, shooting a 555 to place fourth overall. Katie Gillooly (Woodbridge, Va.) turned in a 552, good for fifth.
