NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Norwich University rifle team earned a strong home victory on Saturday, posting a 4381 aggregate to defeat visiting John Jay College (4361) inside the Baroffio's Rifle Range. The Cadets used a balanced lineup across both disciplines to secure the win, highlighted by multiple top-five individual finishes.
Norwich outscored the Bloodhounds 2162–2114 in smallbore and followed with a 2219–2247 showing in air rifle, holding off a late John Jay push to seal the match by 20 points.
Aiden Burris (Marietta, Ga.) claimed the top smallbore score of the day with a 551, continuing his consistent early-season success.
Evan Elders (Spring Hill, Fla.) followed closely with a 547, while
Ben Kelley (Niantic, Conn.) (546) and
Meghan Smith (Georgetown, Texas) (543) gave Norwich four shooters inside the top five.
The Cadets placed six shooters in the top ten of the smallbore standings, led by
Katie Gillooly (Woodbridge, Va.), who delivered a standout performance of the afternoon, capturing first place in air rifle with a 569 and an impressive 25 centers, a personal best. Her score finished one point ahead of John Jay's Danny Canning (568) in a tightly contested discipline.
Sage Kontny (Clancy, Mont.) continued her rise as one of Norwich's most reliable two-gun shooters, finishing fifth in air rifle with a 557 and earning sixth overall in aggregate scoring (1067). Smith (547), Elders (546),
Brady Simmons (Middletown, Del.) (546), and
Alma Negrete (Fontana, Calif.) (546) added key depth, placing Norwich shooters in positions 8 through 12.
