Wrestling: Sprinkel Takes Home First, Three Other Cadets Reach Podium in Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Norwich Wrestling team competed in the Ken Ober Memorial Tournament on Saturday, where they finished fifth in terms of team points. In the day's action, four Cadets reached the podium.

Headlining the top finishes was heavyweight Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) who took home first place. After receiving a first round bye, Sprinkel pinned three straight opponents to earn a place in the championship bout and tying him for the lead in the nation in wins by fall on the season (17). In the championship round, Sprinkel took on Elizabethtown's Dylan Waller, the ninth ranked wrestler at 285-pounds in the country and would take a close 4-2 decision for first place.

Joining Sprinkel on the podium were Simon Taraska (Willowick, Ohio) and Jabari Pinkney (Jessup, Md.) who both picked up fourth place finishes in their respective weight classes. At 184-pounds, Taraska took two straight tech fall wins before succumbing to one in the championship semifinal. He then took the consolation semifinal by decision, before picking up fourth with another decision. Meanwhile, Pinkney recorded a pin and a major decision along with a tech fall enroute to fourth in the 125-pound class. The fourth Cadet to reach the podium was Joshua Ducharme (Tyngsboro, Mass.). In the 165-pound class, Ducharme recorded two pins, a decision, and a major decision.

Norwich will return home next week, when they host American International College for their first home dual meet of the season on Feb 2 in Plumley Armory at 6 PM.
