SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - After a stellar career on the field and in the classroom,
Callum Jones (Burlington, Ontario) of the Norwich University men's lacrosse program was slotted on to the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Academic Team, as announced by the organization.
Nominees must have senior or graduate student standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be an impact player for their team.
Jones graduated this past May and was a midfielder throughout his collegiate career. He majored in criminal justice and carried a 4.0 GPA as a two-sport athlete, also starring on the men's hockey team. He arrived to the field late this past season, as the Norwich men's hockey team earned an at-large berth to the 2023 NCAA Div. III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Against rival Plattsburgh State, Jones ripped in the game-winning goal in overtime to send the Cadets to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
Jones made an immediate impact on the field after the hockey season came to an end, ripping in two goals against Rivier University in his season debut before tallying a hat trick days later in a dominant victory at Regis (Mass.). His year came to an abrupt halt, however, due to a season-ending injury.
He was a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) First Team All-Conference selection and GNAC Tournament MVP in 2022, when he scored 47 goals and dished out 31 helpers.
Overall, 59 different colleges and universities were represented across all three divisions. Wesleyan had eleven student-athletes selected, good for the most in Div. III. In total, 199 Div. III players representing 39 different institutions made an appearance on this year's squads.
