NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich tennis team's winning steak was snapped by Thomas College. The 0-9 loss drops Norwich's record to 2-4 while the visiting Terriers improved to 7-4 on the season.
The Cadets knew it was going to be a difficult match-up coming into the day as they prepared to play against one of the top tennis teams in the region. The Terriers have been a dominant road team, sporting a record of 3-1 on the road and an overall record of 6-4 so far this year. The additional experience, having been able to play in four more matches than Norwich so far this season, was also a significant advantage. Thomas College was able to grab the early momentum which snowballed as the match went on.
Autumn Lewis (Williamstown, Vt.), in the #6 singles spot, fell in two tight sets by a score of 4-6 in each set.
Molly Twombly (Rockport, Mass.), playing in the #2 singles position, rallied in the second set to extend the set but eventually fell 5-7 after dropping the opening set 1-6. In doubles action,
Bennet Oakes (Pawtucket, Conn.) and Lewis paired up in the #3 slot for a great match-up but unfortunately eventually lost 5-8.
The Norwich tennis team will be back in action when they welcome Northern Vermont University-Johnson to Shapiro Field House on Sunday April 2nd.
