Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's lacrosse team took down Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium, 13-8.
Callum Jones (Burlington, Ont.) and Tyler Seidel (Centreville, Md.) each scored three goals and dished out an assist, whiel Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) score three goals. Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) tallied four points with a goal and three assists and Andrew Garrison (Berlin, N.J.), Jack Haley (Falville, Ala.), and Jake Andrews-Pestana (Napa, Calif.) each had a goal in the matchup.
Defensively the Cadets caused 13 total turnovers, with Mason McMahon (Norfolk, Mass.) forcing five on his own while collecting eight ground balls. Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas.) won 14 of his 22 faceoff attempts. In net, Andrew Vernon (Cheshire, Conn.) made 10 saves on the 18 shots he faced.
After a goal by Johnson & Wales kicked things off, Jones made his presence felt by putting the Cadets on the scoreboard to evening things up. Masaracchia followed just under three minutes later to give Norwich the lead. The Wildcats evened things up 12 seconds later, but Norwich ended the quarter with three goals to wrap up the opening frame, taking a 5-2 lead.
The Wildcats came out swinging in the second quarter, scoring knotting the score up at five a piece. Jones then found the back of the net, after jumping and firing a shot between his legs past the goalkeeper. Mike Muench evened the score at 6-6 before Andrews-Pestana and Seidel each found the back of the net in the final two minutes before the half to take an 8-6 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half Norwich allowed Johnson & Wales to score the first goal 3:39 into the half, but the Cadets held the Wildcats scoreless over a 23:53 span while scoring five times during that time on their way to the win.
Norwich (10-1, 5-0 GNAC) will travel to Rivier on Wednesday, Apr. 14 at 7 pm for a GNAC matchup. The Cadets will then host Regis College on the following Saturday, Apr. 16 at 3 pm for their Senior Day ceremony.
