Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Norwich University men's lacrosse team downed Castleton 21-9 in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening.
Two members of the Cadets registered six points in the contest, with Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) had four points and two assists, and Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) had a pair of goals and four assists. Callum Jones (Burlington, Ont.) added five points with three goals and two assists.
In net the Cadet goaltenders combined for eight saves in the contest. Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas) continued his hot start to the season on faceoffs winning 18 of his 24 attempts and picking up 14 ground balls. Gavin Youngclaus (Middleboro, Mass.) and Matt Meehan (Norfolk, Mass.) each had four ground balls and Myles McKay (Lynnfield, Mass.) caused a pair of turnovers.
Norwich struck 45 seconds into the contest after Campbell found Masaracchia, who shot the ball into the back of the net for his 20th goal of the season. Less than two minutes later Campbell again earned the assist after finding Tyler Seidel (Centreville, Md.) with space to take an early 2-0 Cadet lead.
After Castleton scored three of the next four goals to even things at 3-3, Norwhich went on a run after Muraski earned the faceoff win picking up the ground ball and charging towards the net for shot and the goal Muraski's goal was the first of a five-goal run to end the first quarter with the Cadets holding an 8-3 advantage.
Castleton scored to end the run early in the third, but Campbell and Jones each put a shot into the back of the net for a 10-4 lead. After a pair of goals from Castleton, Norwich scored two of their own taking a 12-6 lead into the halftime intermission.
After Norwich and Castleton each scored early in the third, the Cadets took control of the contest, rattling off five straight goals as they secured the win.
Norwich (7-1, 2-0 GNAC) will travel to St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday, Apr. 2 for a 1 pm tilt with the Blue Jays. The Cadets will play on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium on Wednesday, Apr. 6 against Dean at 4 pm.
