Men's Lacrosse: Norwich Rolls to GNAC Victory Over Monks

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's lacrosse team struck six times in the first quarter, as they took command of their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest against Saint Joseph's (Maine) Saturday on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium, 19-8.

Callum Jones (Burlington, Ont.) led the Cadets with six points in the contest, scoring three goals with six assists.  Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) continued his hot start dishing out four assists and scoring for five points, while Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) accomplished his five-point day with three goals and two assists.

Defensively, Tommy Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned his third win of the season, while stopping 15 shots. Mason McMahon (Norwich, Conn.) caused four turnovers while snagging eight ground balls in the matchup. Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas) had 19 face off victories over his 28 attempts collecting 13 ground balls.

Norwich struck 40 seconds into the contest, when Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) found an open Jones who was able to put his shot into the back of the net. Jack Haley (Falkville, Ala.) then added another goal 2:26 later with his sixth goal of the season.

The Monks responded shortly after with a goal from Max Lacy to cut the Norwich lead down to one. Norwich and Saint Joseph's (Maine) traded goals, with the score becoming 3-2. Norwich then went on a run beginning at 6:14 in the first quarter, where they scored seven straight-goals over 13:32 seconds to take a commanding 10-2 lead with 7:42 remaining in the first half.

Saint Joseph's (Maine) was able score with 3:59 remaining in the second quarter, trailing 10-3 at the halftime intermission.

Norwich quickly scored seven seconds into the third quarter, before the Monks struck twice, scoring both goals in 41 seconds. The Cadets then broke off another run scoring six goals in the third quarter to take control of the contest heading into the fourth.

Norwich (6-1, 2-0 GNAC) will travel to in-state rival Castleton in a 6 pm matchup against the Spartans on Wednesday, Mar. 30. The Cadets will then return to conference play when they visit the Blue Jays of St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday, Apr. 2, before hosting Dean on Wednesday, Apr. 6 at 4 pm.
