Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's lacrosse team picked up their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Emmanuel, downing the Saints, 14-10.
Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored two goals and dished out two assists for a total of four points, while Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) had four points on three assists and a goal. Tyler Seidel (Centreville, Md.) scored a team-high three goals and Callum Jones (Burlington, Ont.) and Jake Andrews-Pestana (Napa, Calif.) each collected three points each in the matchup.
In net Tommy Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) moved to 2-0 on the season saving 14 of the 24 shots that he faced. Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas) won 20 of the 27 faceoffs that he participated in and picked up 18 ground balls. Clayton Cisar (Aberdeen, Md.) forced four turnovers in the contest.
Norwich jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after a goal by Muraski scored with 13:20 remaining in the first quarter. Emmanuel scored on a man-up opportunity but Norwich then went on another 3-0 scoring run after a goal by Anzalone and a pair of goals by Seidel. After Aidan Sullivan scored for the Saints to cut the lead down to four, Seidel then scored his third goal of the first quarter to take a 7-2 lead into the second quarter.
Emmanuel added two goals early in the second quarter before Jones scored for the Cadets to regain a four-goal lead. Emmanuel's Robert Favuzza scored in the closing seconds as Emmanuel went into the locker room trailing 8-5.
Emmanuel outscored Norwich 3-1 in the third quarter, before entering the fourth quarter trailing 9-8.
Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) scored early on and Jones then added a goal with 6:13 remaining in the fourth quarter. After Favuzza gave Emmanuel some momentum with a goal at 4:12 remaining, Norwich scored another three straight goals as they held off Emmanuel for the 14-10 win.
Norwich (5-1, 1-0 GNAC) will host New England College on Wednesday, Mar. 23 at 4 pm at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium. The Cadets will then host Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday, Mar. 26 for a 1 pm GNAC matchup.
