Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's lacrosse team was able to score 15 goals in the first half as they pulled away from Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium for a 23-14 victory over the Huskies.
Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) had nine points on a four goal, five assist day. Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Callum Jones (Burlington, Ont.) each had five points with Jones scoring three goals with two assists and Anzalone dishing out three assists and scoring a pair of goals.
Luke Boland (Tolland, Conn.) picked up the win in goal, Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas) won 26 of his 36 faceoff attempts. The Cadets grabbed 57 ground balls to the Huskies 30, and forced 10 turnovers in the matchup.
Norwich trailed 2-0 early in the first quarter, but Andrew Garrison (Berlin, N.J.) scored his first goal of the contest after receiving a pass from Jones. The Cadets scored a man-up goal when Campbell found Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) who then fired a shot into the back of the net.
After Southern Maine scored to retake the lead, Norwich scored three straight goals to go up 5-3. The Huskies scored again with 2:56 remaining in the opening quarter, but Norwich struck two more times to take a 7-4 lead into the second quarter.
After Southern Maine opened up the quarter with a goal, but Norwich rattled off five straight into the back of the net to take a secure 12-5 advantage. The Huskies scored twice, and Norwich scored three more times as they took a 15-7 lead into the halftime break.
The Cadets added five more goals in the third quarter, and three more in the fourth as they held Southern Maine to seven goals in the second half as Norwich closed out the victory.
The Cadets' 23 goals are the most since May 4, 2011 when they scored 23 goals against Johnson State.
Norwich (4-1, 0-0 GNAC) will be off until Saturday, Mar. 19 at 1 pm at Emmanuel for their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup of the year. They will then host New England College on Wednesday, Mar. 23 for a 4 pm start.
