NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich wrestling team was able to use a pair of pins on their way to a 35-11 defeat of Plymouth State in a dual meet in Wednesday night in Andrews Hall.
Before the meet started, Norwich celebrated their six seniors Tyler Barker (Round Rock, Texas), Blaise Bressler (Fredericksburg, Pa.), Joe Castellino (Natick, Mass.), Daniel Curran (Peterborough, N.H.), Gabriel Duden (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), and Drake Troyer (Lakewood, Colo.).
Norwich held an early 12-0 lead before Joseph Lotruglio (Andover, N.J.) pinned his opponent at 141 pounds in 2:47 earning an additional six point for the Cadets. Kyle Merritt (Hope Valley, R.I.) then followed wrestling at 149-pounds, defeating his opponent by major decision, 13-3.
The Panthers picked up three points at 157-pounds and 165-pounds, but Curran pinned his 174-pound opponent pinning him in 1:41.
After Plymouth State earned a technical fall victory, Niko Chitty (Coral Springs, Fla.) earned a 12-0 major decision victory at 197, and Duden had a 9-4 decision win over his opponent at 285-pounds.
Norwich will travel to Portland, Maine on Saturday, Feb. 12 for a dual meet against Southern Maine at 1 pm.
