GORHAM, Maine. – The Norwich University wrestling team was able to overcome an early 10-point deficit in their dual meet against Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon in Maine, 23-22.
After dropping points at 125 and 133-pounds Joseph Lotruglio (Andover, N.J.) earned a tech fall win over Kevin Moore at 141-pounds, 18-3. Kyle Merritt (Hope Valley, R.I.) then picked up win earning three points for the Cadets with a 7-2 decision over his opponent at 149-pounds.
Cameron Wooldridge (Roanoke, Va.) took the lead for the Cadets after defeating Tyler Haynes in an 11-10 win by decision, earning three more points for the Cadets who heled a 11-10 advantage.
The strong middle weights continued to power Norwich with Tyler Barker (Round Rock, Texas) and Daniel Curran (Peterbourough, N.H.) each earning decision victories for the Cadets as they took a seven-point edge with three matches remaining.
After Southern Maine's Aidan Whitis picked up a victory by pinning his opponent for six points, Niko Chitty (Coral Springs, Fla.) pinned his opponent after 5:45 seconds of match time clinching the win for the Cadets with one match to go.
Norwich moves to 5-6 on the year in dual meets and now turns their preparation to Feb. 20 when they compete at the Futures Invitational on Feb. 20. They will then compete at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regionals on Feb. 26-27.
