COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Norwich University wrestling team visited Ursinus College Saturday for the Will Abele Invitational hosted by the Bears.
The Cadets as a team placed fourth in the 13-team event, earning a total of 95.5 points, 4.5 points behind third place Washington & Jefferson. Western New England placed first with 143.5 points and Ursinus followed in second place with 105 points.
Norwich had eight wrestlers place in the top-six for their weight class with two wrestlers placing first at their weight class.
Wrestling at 141-pounds, Joseph Lotruglio (Andover, N.J.) went 4-0 on the day earning a firsts place finish. After winning by fall in his opening matchup, Lotruglio defeated Christian Logan from Washington & Jefferson by decision, 18-11. He then defeated his semifinal opponent Colby Reilly from Western New England by fall, before edging Colton White by a 5-4 decision.
Kyle Merritt (Hope Valley, R.I.) earned first place at 149-pounds by going 5-0, winning three of his five matches by fall, including his matchup against Ursinus' Dante Monaco in the finals.
Joshua Ducharme (Tyngsboro, Mass.) went 3-1 on the day, battling his way to the finals at 157-pounds, eventually falling by decision to Luke Pinzino. Cameron Wooldridge (Roanoke, Va.) placed third going 4-1 winning his two matches in the consolation bracket.
At 174-pounds Daniel Curran (Peterborough, N.H.) finished second with a 3-1 day, where he fell to top ranked Jaden Datz in the final. Tyrian Saeturn (Dracut, Mass.), finished fourth at 174-pounds also losing his match to Datz. Saeturn then fell to Luke Lardarello in the third-place match.
Niko Chitty (Coral Springs, Fla.) placed fifth at 197-pounds and Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) rounded out the eight wrestlers that placed in sixth place at 285-pounds.
Next on the Cadets' schedule is the New England Wrestling Association Duals on Sunday, Jan. 23. They will then follow that appearance with their first home meets of the year, hosting New England College and Williams on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 12 p.m.
