Box Score NASHUA, N.H. – Norwich University men's lacrosse received a hat trick from junior Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) as the Cadets doubled up Rivier University 12-6 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening.
Norwich (5-2, 4-1 GNAC) got back in the win column with an opening quarter in which it outscored Rivier (2-3, 2-3 GNAC) in the opening quarter 5-2. Campbell and senior Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) each netted a pair in the opening frame while picking up an assist. Freshman Jack Haley (Falkville, Ala.) tickled the twine for the other Cadet goal to open the scoring.
A quiet second quarter resulted in just two goals, one for each team to put the Cadets up at the half, 6-3. Campbell scored his third of the night and 12th of the season converting a feed from senior Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.).
The Cadets started the second half with three-straight goals to extend their lead to 9-3 with 9:02 remaining in the frame. Senior Russell Gilligan (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) scored with the man advantage while Masaracchia and senior Clyde Tamburro (Elizabethtown, Pa.) added a goal each.
After leading 10-5 heading into the final period, Masaracchia popped in his second of the game and team-leading 23rd goal of the season before sophomore Callum Jones (Burlington, Ontario) notched an unassisted marker to close out the Norwich scoring to make in 12-5.
Senior Nick Kandra (Crofton, Md.) backstopped the visitors to victory in net by making 10 saves. Freshman face-off specialist Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas) notched a 12-for-21 performance at the X and picked up a game-high seven groundballs.
Anzalone added three assists to his pair of goals to lead the team with five points. Campbell (3G, 1A) and Jones (1G, 3A) each contributed four points. Haley and Masaracchia each tallied two-goal performances to help the offense. Masaracchia potted his 74th career goal with his second of the night to tie Phil Soto (1995-98) for 9th all-time. Defensively, the tandem of senior Sean Wallace (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and freshman Mason McMahon (Norwich, Conn.) led a unit that caused the Rivier offense fits as the pair combined for six caused turnovers (three each) and little opportunity for quality scoring chances.
The Cadets will return to action Saturday when they host St. Joseph (Conn.) on Sabine Field at 1 p.m. The game will mark the team's final home game of the regular season and will serve as its senior day celebration.
