NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team continued its dominant start to the season, shutting out Castleton 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Shapiro Field House in non-conference action.
Norwich (3-0) swept the season series form Castleton after the Cadets also beat the Spartans 7-2 to open the season up on March 31.
The Cadets rolled through Wednesday's match, sweeping all three doubles matches, including two 8-0 shutouts. Norwich then only dropped eight total points during the singles matches to romp to the victory.
Senior Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) stayed perfect at No. 1 singles and doubles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rowan Kidder, as well as teamed with junior Timothy Santy (San Antonio, Texas) to take the top doubles flight 8-0 over Kidder and Luke Cohen.
Santy also won No. 2 singles over Connor Davis 6-1, 6-2 to improve to 3-0 in singles action.
Senior Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) continued her strong senior season, sweeping No. 4 singles over Luke Cohen 6-0, 6-0. Barker also teamed with freshman Austin Rosas (San Benito, Texas) to take No. 2 doubles over Davis and Jason Lipscomb. Sophomore Matthias Tchantouridze (Montpelier, Vt.) took No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 over Lipscomb.
Senior Brandon Sichak (Miami, Fla.) teamed with sophomore Jack Lepage (Palmyra, Maine) to take No. 3 doubles 8-0. Sichak also won No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1 ove Rafael Robles.
Rosas won No. 5 singles 8-0 in a pro-set victory.
Norwich will return to the courts on Saturday when it plays a rare men and women's doubleheader vs. Colby-Sawyer. The Cadets will take on the Colby-Sawyer men at 11 a.m. in New London and then they'll play the Colby-Sawyer women right after at 2 p.m. in an exhibition match.
