NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University tennis team opened the 2021 season with a 7-2 victory over Castleton on Wednesday afternoon at Grand Slam Tennis.
Senior Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) led a dominant effort from the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles position to help the Cadets roll to the victory. Gilmore defeated Levi Williams 6-1, 6-2 to take the top singles win and then teamed with Timothy Santy (San Antonio, Texas) to take No. 1 doubles over Williams and Rowan Kidder.
Santy also won No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-4 over Jason Lipscomb to take both of his matches on the day.
Senior Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) won No. 3 singles with an 8-3 pro-set victory over Connor Davis. She also teamed with senior Brandon Sichak (Miami, Fla.) to take a marathon No. 2 doubles set by a score of 8-7.
Sophomore Jack Lepage (Palmyra, Maine) took No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Rafael Robles. He also teamed with William Flowers (Lantana, Texas) to take No. 3 doubles 8-3.
Norwich will return to action on April 8 when it hosts NVU Lyndon at 4 p.m. in Shapiro Field House in its 2021 home opener.
