CASTLETON, Vt. – The Norwich University wrestling team traveled down to Castleton this evening for a dual meet with their in-state rival. The Cadets battled throughout the meet, eventually falling 39-3 to the Spartans.
In the exhibition matches, the Cadets were able to see four different wrestlers win their matches. Joe Castellino (Natick, Mass.) opened up the event with a win by fall in 1:33 over his opponent in the 157 division.
Norwich also saw Michel St. Juste (Atlantic City, N.J.) win in his match over Stephen Jennings by decision, winning the match by a score of 9-6. A few matches later Thoren Berg (Holliston, Mass.) won his second match of the day defeating his opponent by fall in 44 seconds.
In the 285-pound weight class, Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) won his first match over Logan Mead in his opening match of the night, by fall, in 4:20.
After Cameron Wooldridge (Roanoke, Va.) battled to a 7-6 loss by decision in the opening scoring match at 157-pounds, Tyler Barker (Round Rock, Texas) was able to hang in against Michael Angers, eventually falling by 3-2 decision.
In the 174-pound match Cooper Fleming was able to upset Dan Curran (Peterborough, N.H.) by a 3-2 decision. In the final match of the day Kyle Merritt (Hope Valley, R.I.) was able to take down Elijah Cyr with a 7-0 decision.
The Cadets will look to rebound on Saturday, Nov. 20 when they travel to WPI for a dual meet against the Engineers beginning at 1 p.m. Norwich will then compete at the RIT Invitational on Dec. 4 to close out 2021.
