PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Norwich University wrestling team claimed five-straight wins mid-match to surge past Plymouth State University, 33-8, in a dual meet at Foley Gymnasium on Wednesday evening and claim its first dual win of the season.
After a no contest at 125, freshman Cameron Wooldridge (Roanoke, Va.) started the Cadets off on a positive note when he pinned his opponent in the second period at 133 pounds. Junior Ben Forsman's (Voorhees, N.J.) win by a 9-5 decision at 149 pounds ignited a streak of five wins in a row for the visitors to effectively clinch the match.
Sophomores Tyler Barker (Round Rock, Texas) and Daniel Curran (Peterborough, N.H.) bookended the remainder of the bouts during the run with pins at 157 and 184 pounds, respectively. Senior Brandon DesFosses (Methuen, Mass.) notched an 11-5 decision at 165 pounds to push the lead to 30-5.
Senior Mike Kennedy (Somers Point, N.J.) closed out the match by earning a 7-2 decision at heavyweight to secure the victory.
Norwich will host Southern Maine in a dual meet on Saturday, February 15 in its next match. That dual will also represent Senior Day for a handful of senior wrestlers. The dual is set to begin at 1 p.m.
