STOWE, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team topped Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Thursday afternoon 8-1 in non-conference action at Topnotch Resort.
Norwich (6-6) swept all three doubles matches and then took five of the six singles matches to cruise to the non-conference victory.
Sophomore Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) and freshman Timothy Santy (San Antonio, Texas) improved to 4-0 in doubles matches with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over Colin Campagna and Trevor Newton. Santy also won No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 to pick up two wins on the day.
Freshman Daniel Luong (Atlantic City, N.J.) picked up his first collegiate victories, sweeping No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0. He also teamed with Timothy Birnbaum (Mahwah, N.J.) to take No. 3 doubles 8-1. Birnbaum won No. 4 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore Noah Stillman (Danbury, Conn.) teamed with Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) to take No. 1 doubles 8-3, while also winning No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-2.
Sophomore Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) won No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 7-5 on the season in solo matches.
Norwich hosts Springfield College on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Shapiro Field House in non-conference action.
