Wrestling: Cadets travel to NCAA Regionals, place 14th

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Norwich University wrestling team wrapped up their 2017-18 season over the weekend at the NCAA Divison III Regionals, placing 14th in the field of 17 teams and totaling 14.0 team points on the day. 

Johnson & Wales (R.I) continued their fine season by running away with the match via 156.5 team points, far outpacing the second place Engineers of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and their 92.5 team points, to repeat as NCAA Regional Champions for the second year in a row. 

For Norwich, senior Frank Girolamo (Stoughton, Mass.) had a solid day on the mat, winning back-to-back matches to reach the quarterfinals. The first match was an 11-5 decision over Kevin Ell of Plymouth State University, and Girolamo followed that up with a 3-2 decision over Adam Patsun of Roger Williams University. He was finally stopped in the quarterfinal match by Isaiah Bellamy of Wesleyan University, who would go on to win the 285-pound bracket altogether. 

A few Cadets managed to pick up wins in their consolation bracket matches, including; Jonathan Graziane (Beekmantown, N.Y.), Ben Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.)John Schultz (Cedar Grove, N.J.), and Donte Jones (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.). Altogether the Cadets ended up with 14.0 team points and the 14th place finish.
