BRISTOL, R.I. - The Norwich University men's wrestling team traveled down to Roger Williams University on Sunday afternoon to compete at the New England Futures Invitational, placing 10th out of the 12 competing teams.
Johnson and Wales took the match handily with 162 team points, outpacing the second place Worcester Polytechnic Institute squad's 103.5 points. Norwich tallied 25.5 total points on the day, good for 10th place.
Morgan Yates (Gold Bar, Wash.) had a fine day for the Cadets, rattling off back to back victories in the 285-pound bracket, first defeating Nick Day of WPI by fall (0:39) and following it up with a defeat of Mason Osborn of Castleton University by fall (0:49) to advance all the way to the quarterfinals in his bracket, before falling to Edmund Pierce of JWU by fall (2:42) to end up with a fourth-place finish.
Shane Ryan (Voorhees, N.J.) picked up a victory in the consolation bracket of the 149-pound crowd with a victory by fall (2:13) over Dimitrios Tartsinis of Western New England University. Michael Mucciarone (Linwood, N.J.) also picked up a consolation victory in his 141-pound bout with Derek Wilson of Springfield College, defeating his opponent by fall (6:48).
Next up for the Cadets is the February 24th NCAA Division III Northeast Regionals, held in Springfield, Massachusetts this year.
