Men's Soccer: Norwich shuts out Regis 2-0, extends unbeaten streak to 11

Box Score

WESTON, Mass. - The Norwich University men's soccer team defeated Regis College 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action to stretch its unbeaten streak to 11 straight to open the season.

Freshman forward Bienfait Badibanga (Burlington, Vt.) scored a goal and notched an assist to lead offensive effort for Norwich (8-0-3, 5-0-1 GNAC), who is receiving votes in the d3soccer.com national rankings for the first time in program history.

Fellow rookie Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) scored a goal as well in the first half to account for the rest of the offense in the Norwich victory.

Badibanga scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 29th minute with an unassisted tally to give the Cadets a lead they would never look back from for his third game-winning goal of the season.

Just under four minutes later, Nemeye scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Badibanga to account for the rest of the scoring in the game.

Norwich posted its third straight shutout, with senior goalkeeper Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) picking up his fifth shutout of the season and 11th of his career.

The Cadets outshot Regis 14-4, including a 9-2 advantage in the first 45 minutes.

Norwich maintained its hold on second place in the GNAC standings with the victory. The Cadets have 16 points, trailing only undefeated Saint Joseph's (Maine), who has 21 points in seven games. NU has one game in hand on the Monks.

Norwich also extended its impressive GNAC regular season unbeaten streak to 25 straight games with the win. The Cadets last loss a league regular season game on Oct. 24, 2015 at Saint Joseph's (Maine). NU is also unbeaten in 23 straight overall regular season games, dating back to a 4-0 loss at Plattsburgh State on Sept. 13, 2017.

NU will now face a huge showdown with third-place Johnson & Wales on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium. The Wildcats are 6-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in league play. With a victory, Norwich would put itself in a great spot to lock up a top-two spot in the conference.
