Men's Lacrosse: Norwich Takes Down Anna Maria, 13-5

Box Score

PAXTON, Mass. – Junior Nolan Aurelia (Stratford, Conn.) and senior Nick Imbriani (Foxboro, Mass.) posted four points each on offense, pacing the Norwich University men's lacrosse team in Tuesday's 13-5 victory over Anna Maria College.

The Cadets move to 9-7 on the season, improving to 5-2 against Great Northeast Athletic Conference foes. Anna Maria dips to 3-12 overall and to 1-6 against league opponents.

Aurelia potted two goals and as many assists while Imbriani chipped in with three markers and an assist. Junior Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.), sophomore William Conroy (Dorchester, Mass.) and junior Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) each scored twice for the Cadets. Junior Matt Whear (Duxbury, Mass.) was a standout defensive player for Norwich, reeling in seven ground balls and causing one turnover.

The Cadets opened up a 6-0 lead with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter, but Anna Maria countered with back-to-back goals down the stretch. Conroy and Imbriani began the second quarter with goals, creating an 8-2 lead with 10:47 left before another AMCATS strike temporarily slowed the Cadets momentum.

Just over one minute later, sophomore Aidan Moulton (Danvers, Mass.) was set up by Imbriani to spark a two-goal run for Norwich that led to a 10-3 halftime lead. The Cadets potted three of the game's five second-half goals, keeping Anna Maria at arm's length in the final 30 minutes.

Freshman Thomas DeMag (South Burlington, Vt.) won 11-of-15 face-offs while classmate Christian Williams (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) was a perfect 7-for-7 at the "X" for Norwich. The Cadets also won 49 ground balls in the victory, outshooting Anna Maria by a 37-to-30 margin.

Freshman Brandon Milburn (Bridgewater, N.J.) remains undefeated in his Norwich career, improving to 3-0 after yielding only five goals on 13 shots against. Anna Maria backstop Paul Schwarz allowed 13 goals and made as many saves – the AMCATS were led offensively by Brandon Pavoni and his two goals and one assist (2-1=3).

Norwich will travel to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) for a 1 p.m. contest this Saturday, Apr. 29 in the regular season and GNAC finale for both programs. The Cadets head into the tilt with a four-game winning streak and will look to finish with a 6-2 record in conference.
