NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) of the Norwich University men's tennis team picked up a singles and doubles victory in Saturday's 7-2 loss to Western New England University.
The Cadets fall to 0-2 on the young season while the Golden Bears even their overall record at 1-1. Norwich will play its next three matches at home within the Shapiro Field House, taking on Lyndon State College at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 9 – the match will be live streamed on the Northeast Sports Network.
Beiter and his No. 3 doubles partner, junior Hadley Ellis (Jamestown, Ky.), cruised to an 8-2 victory to halve Western New England's lead through the first three doubles matches, 2-1.
The Golden Bears controlled singles play, however, as Beiter earned Norwich's only singles win. He cruised past Vu Ngyuen by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Senior Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) fell behind 6-1 at No. 3 singles, but took the next set by a 7-5 score. He ultimately fell by a 6-4 score in the decisive third set.
