ROCHESTER, N.Y.- The Norwich University wrestling program made their way down to the Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday morning to compete in the 2017 RIT Invitational against 11 top programs from the region.
The Cadets saw some individual success, first by senior Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.) in the 133-pound bracket. Forsman was able to dispatch Steve Pocze of Oneonta in his first match of the day by major decision, 8-0. After dropping his next match, Forsman went on the rattle off back-to-back wins over Alex Rawlings of the host school and Anthony Ianno of Oswego to take 5th place overall in his weight division.
After dropping his first match in the 141-pound bracket, P.J. Testino (Dingmans Ferry, Pa.) was able to rally back and win his next two matches. He first dispatched teammate Jonathan Graziane (Beekmantown, N.Y.) by technical fall (18-3) before besting Evan Mackie of WPI by major decision, 17-6.
Ronnie Caudill (Huber Heights, Ohio) was also able to win his first match of the day, besting Nate Tommas of Case Western Reserve by decision, 10-5. Hussein Kanaan (Scottsdale, Ariz.) got off to a good start as well with a win by fall (3:27) over Michael Fabian of WPI.
Other Cadets with victories on Saturday included Ben Forsman (Voorhees, N.J), Brandon Desfosses (Methuen, Mass.), Daniel Cunningham (Bradenton, Fla.), Steve Briganti (Trumball, Conn.), Satchel Stauffer, and Morgan Yates (Gold Bar, Wash.).
As a team, the Cadets finished up with 44.5 points, which was good for 10th place. WPI was able to take the match in runaway fashion with 150 team points.
The Cadets are back at it this Wednesday, taking to the road for a showdown with Plymouth State, set to kick-off at 6:00 PM.
