PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Norwich wrestling opened up their 2017-18 season at the 34th annual Ithaca Invitational this week, wrapping up the two-day event on Saturday afternoon. The Cadets placed 12th out of 16 teams with a total of 37.5 points.

Junior Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.) led the way for the Cadets, wrestling in the 133-lb weight class. After a first-round bye, Forsman defeated Joel Zambrano from Springfield by decision and then bested Tim McLinden from Western New England by fall. In the semifinals, Forsman was defeated by Jay Albis of Johnson & Wales (R.I.) by a technical fall. Forsman racked up 14.50 team points for the Cadets and ended up placing third in his weight class. 

Senior captain Zach Gibson (Lithopolis, Ohio) opened up his season with back-to-back wins over Bruce Parola of Stevens Institute of Technology (by decision) and Joshua Jean-Babtiste of SUNY Sullivan (by fall) before falling to Drew Kasper of Otterbein University. 

Some other contributors for the Cadets included Satchel Stauffer, who notched two victories by decision on the day. Daniel Cunningham (Bradenton, Fl.) defeated James Jachim of Stevens Insitute of Technology by fall in his first match of the year. Brandon DesFosses (Methuen, Mass.) started his season off with a victory over Cory Lutz of Rochester Institute of Technology.

Stevens Institute of Technology took the match with 142 points on the day. Norwich ended up 12th in the field of 16 teams, with a team total of 37.5 points. 

The Cadets will be back in action next Saturday, November 11th, at the Roger Williams Invitational in Bristol, Rhode Island. The match is set to get going at 10:00 a.m.
