BRISTOL, R.I. - The Norwich University wrestling team competed in the annual Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Rhode Island, placing 8th out of 13 teams.

In the 197-pound weight class, senior captain Zach Gibson (Lithopolis, Ohio) picked up two wins by defeating Karrington Washington of Messiah by an 8-5 decision before dispatching Thomas Sidener of USCGA by fall in a mere 2:31. Gibson ended up in 4th place individually. 

Fellow senior and captain Frank Girolamo (Stoughton, Mass.) rattled off back to back wins in the 285-pound class, first with a win by fall over Edward Rynander of Bergen Community College in 2:47 followed by a 9-4 decision over Dan Kiser of Messiah. Girolamo was bested in the semifinals by Mike Risti of Southern Maine by a 4-1 decision.

Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.) bested Tristan Stetson of Wesleyan by fall in a mere 2:41 before falling to Tristan Haviland of the host school in a hard fought 6-5 decision. Forsman ended up in fourth place. 

A pair of freshmen put together nice days for the Cadets, including Ben Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.) who picked up a win in his first matchup within the 149-pound weight class, defeating James Matias of Wesleyan in a dominating 17-8 MD victory. Classmate Morgan Yates (Gold Bar, Wash.) picked up a win in the 285-pound bracket, defeating Scott Schaeffer of Muhlenburg by fall in 2:23.

Overall the Cadets finished up with 54.5 team points on Saturday, their highest number yet this year. Placing in 8th, the Cadets fell far short of the first place Johnson & Wales and their 171 team points.

The squad is back in action this Thursday, November 16th, for the highly-anticipated Green Mountain Championship. The Cadets will host regional rival Castleton University for this marquee matchup, set to kick-off at 7 PM at Norwich.
