RUTLAND, Vt. – The Norwich University men's tennis team won its second straight match on Saturday morning with a 7-2 victory over Green Mountain College at the Vermont Sports and Fitness Club.
With the win, Norwich improved to 3-4 on the year, while the Eagles slipped to 3-2 overall.
Green Mountain's Connor Braden and partner Truman Cressey got the Eagles off to a good start in top-flight doubles as the duo upended the Norwich pairing of Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) and Jeff Purdy (Grantham, N.H.), 8-4.
The Cadets posted wins in the other two doubles matchups with a pair of 8-4 outcomes. Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) and Tyler Eagan (Verona, N.J.) defeated Grey McCampbell and Andrew Woodman, while Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) and Hadley Ellis (Jamestown, Ky.) took down Eric Wade and Thomas Grunow.
Braden took the top-flight singles match in straight sets over Hyte, 6-3 and 6-2.
Norwich ran the table in the remaining singles matches with four straight sets victories and a three-set win in fifth flight singles.
Carter used the advantage of taking a tough first match against Cressey, 7-5, to roll in the second set, 6-0, in number two singles.
Purdy posted a pair of 6-0 set wins in third flight singles to win his match against McCampbell.
In number four singles action, Eagen bested Woodman by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
Fifth flight singles was an endurance match between Beiter and Wade. The Eagles' Wade took the first set with a 6-1 win before Beiter battled back to win the second set 6-1. Beiter then took the final pro set, 10-4, to earn the win.
Ellis battled the fresh legs of GMC's Jack Tiernan in the final singles pairing, but ground out a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Norwich will look to extend its winning streak to three straight on Wednesday when it travels to Lyndon State for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference matchup.
