JOHNSON, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team completed the season sweep over the Johnson State College Badgers on Thursday afternoon in non-league action.
Norwich (5-5, 0-1 GNAC North) picked up the 9-0 victory for the second straight time this season vs. Johnson State.
Junior Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) was impressive for the Cadets, taking No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 over Cole Hennessey. Hyte also teamed with Jeff Purdy (Grantham, N.H.) to take No. 1 doubles 8-2 over Hennessey and Alex Pakatar.
Hyte improved to 6-4 on the season at the top singles position, while the duo improved to 4-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Purdy also won No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 vs. Connor Neathawk.
Juniors Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) and Tyler Eagan (Verona, N.J.) took No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 victory over Neathawk and Pedro Perez.
Carter also won No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1 over Pakatar. Eagan took No. 4 singles over Corey Nystrom 6-0, 6-0.
Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) and Hadley Ellis (Jamestown, Ky.) combined to take No. 3 doubles 8-5 over Richie Perez and Nystrom. Ellis won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles over Greg Davis, while Beiter won a three-set match over Richie Perez 6-4, 4-6 and then won a 10-6 tie break.
