Box Score THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Norwich University senior midfielder Ryan McCarthy (Medford, Mass.) tallied three points on two goals and an assist but it was SUNY Maritime picking up the 15-3 victory in men's lacrosse non –conference action on Sunday afternoon.
Maritime (1-1) built a 6-0 second-quarter lead before Cadets' (0-3) McCarthy scored two goals of a second quarter that saw the two teams combine for 25 turnovers.
The Privateers added three more goals to stretch their lead to 11-2 before the break. Norwich opened the third quarter as sophomore midfielder Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) found the net on a feed from McCarthy for the third goal of the game.
Maritime scored a pair of goals in the third and fourth quarter to close out the game, 15-3, and pick up its first win of the season.
Norwich freshman goalie Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) was credited with three saves in 17:50 minutes of play, before Liam DeBiase (Scotia, N.Y.) stopped 14 shots in the final 42:10 minutes of action.
Sophomore defender Thomas Carlson (Amston, Conn.) led the defensive efforts forcing four caused turnovers and picking up five ground balls, while senior Jimmy Warden (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Zach Adler (Stratham, N.H.) forced two caused turnovers and picked up a ground ball for the Cadets. Sophomore Jack Dwyer (Shelburne, Vt.) won the battle on the face seven out of 18 attempts.
The Cadets will close out the four-game road trip on Friday, March 11 at Curry College for the 3:30 p.m. contest.
