Men's Tennis: Castleton marches past Norwich 7-2

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Norwich University tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Castleton University on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Grand Slam Tennis Center.

Castleton (4-0) swept the season series from the Cadets after taking a 7-2 win in both team's season opener on March 3 at Shapiro Field House.

Junior Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) improved to 3-1 at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Castleton's Seth Marcil. Sophomore Mason Madison (Lebanon, Conn.) picked up an impressive come-from-behind victory at No. 4 singles to round out the Cadet winners on the day.

Madison dropped the first set 6-0 to Castleton's Quentin Barthe. However, the second-year player responded with a 7-6 victory in the second set and a 6-3 win in the third set to take the win.

Norwich (1-3) dropped all three doubles matches with Hyte and Jeff Purdy (Grantham, N.H.) putting up the best fight at No. 1 doubles against Marcil and Kevin Rosset. Hyte and Purdy fell 8-5 to the Spartans' top duo.
