Men's Lacrosse: Norwich Comes up Short, 11-10, to Curry College on the Road

Box Score

MILTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's lacrosse team put on a furious rally in the second half but fell short to Curry College Friday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win Curry improves to 3-0 on the year, while Norwich falls to 0-3 overall.

Senior attackman Ryan McCarthy (Medford, Mass.) led the Maroon and Gold with five points on four goals and an assist, while sophomore midfielder Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) pitched in with four points with a hat trick and an assist. Senior midfielder Jimmy Warden (North Andover, Mass.) added three points on a goal and a pair of assists, while sophomores Ian Kennedy (Glouchester, Mass.) and Nick Imbriani (Foxboro, Mass.) each recorded a goal and an assist.

Curry scored a pair of goals to start the game before McCarthy notched the Cadets' first goal of the contest at the seven minute mark. The Colonels would score three straight for the 5-1 lead before Imbriani connected a pass to Jenkins for Norwich's second goal with just 14 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Curry scored three straight to open the second quarter to widen the lead to six, 8-2, until Warden snapped the Cadets' scoring drought on an extra man opportunity. Both teams scored a trio of goals one after another as the Colonels recorded their 10th goal of the game to close out the first half with a 10-4 lead.

After the break the Cadets came out hot on both ends of the field. Norwich scored five unanswered goals over the course of two quarters with McCarthy scoring three straight, while the Cadets' defense kept the Colonels off the board in the third quarter as Norwich trailed in the fourth quarter by just two points, 10-8, with 7:25 remaining in the game.

Curry would find the net once more before the Cadets responded with back-to-back goals by Imbriani and Kennedy with seven seconds remaining in the game. Norwich looked to tie up the contest, but the Colonels would win the faceoff and run time off the clock for the 11-10 win.

Freshman Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) turned away 15 shots in between the pipes for the Cadets. Sophomore Jack Dwyer (Shelburne, Vt.) won the face three times with senior Pete Soonthornprapuet (Pelham, N.H.) picking up two wins out of the 13 faceoff attempts combined.

Norwich will return to action on Saturday, March 19 as they host Coast Guard Academy in the home opener at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium for the 1:00 p.m. contest.
