SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Norwich University wrestlers Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.H.) notched fifth place and Frank Girolamo (Stoughton, Mass.) finished sixth at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regionals as the Cadets wrapped up action Sunday in the two-day tournament hosted by Springfield College.

As a team the Cadets registered 41.5 points en route to an 11th place finish, its best showing since the NCAA Regional era began in 2013. Ithaca won the 18-team event with 144 points while Roger Williams was second with 136.5.

Forsman entered Sunday still in the winner's bracket at 125 pounds. The freshman, seeded fifth dropped his semifinal bout to 17th-seeded Andrew Roden from Cortland, 6-4, before falling to top-seeded James Kaishian of Ithaca, 10-9. Forsman would finish in fifth after ending the day with a 9-5 decision over 14th-seeded Joey Aumann of Plattsburgh State.

Girolamo, seeded sixth, continued a trek through the 285 pound winner's bracket that began on Saturday with a pair of wins. The sophomore heavyweight faced second-seeded Jake Benedict of Springfield College and dropped a 6-2 decision to Benedict, who went on to win the title. Girolamo was then bumped to the consolation bracket, facing top-seeded Kyle Foster from Roger Williams. Foster out wrestled Girolamo for the 7-0 win as he finished third in the tournament. Girolamo would finish in sixth place in the bracket after a 5-0 setback to Martin Strenk of Williams College.

Two other Norwich wrestlers competed on Sunday after winning multiple matches on Saturday. They included freshman Sean Randles (Las Vegas, Nev.) at 133 pounds and junior Pat McCurdy (Alloway, N.J.) at 165 pounds.

The regional tournament marks the end of a season that saw Norwich post a dual meet record of 7-10 on the year.
