Wrestling: Forsman Perfect at Wesleyan Quad Meet

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.  – Freshman 125-pounder Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.) went a perfect 3-0, while junior 165-pounder Pat McCurdy (Alloway, N.J.) won two of his three matches to lead the Norwich University wrestling team at a quad meet at Wesleyan College on Sunday, Feb. 14, as the team defeated Oswego, 25-18, before falling to Wesleyan, 23-14, and Lycoming, 40-9.

Forsman and McCurdy accounted for 25 of the team's 48 points during the day, while senior 285-pounder Bryan Giblin (Georgetown, Mass.) went 2-1 to add six more points.

Norwich started the day with a 25-18 win over Oswego for its seventh dual victory on the year. Forsman opened the first weight class with a pin over his opponent in just 3:23 followed by sophomore 133-pounder Chase Jeffreys (Topsfield, Mass.) picking up four points on a 10-2 major decision to give Norwich the 10-0 lead after two bouts.

Oswego would pick up 15 points on the next three bouts before McCurdy pinned Mark Milisci in 2:53 to give Norwich the 16-15 lead after six matches. The Lakers would take the lead once more on a decision in the 184-pounder bout, but the Cadets would rebound and take the final two matches in the 197 and 285 weight classes with junior David Rogers (Marlborough, Mass.) edging Bryce Reed on a 8-2 decision followed by Giblin's 8-3 decision over Kade Andrews to give Norwich the 25-18 victory on the day.

The second dual meet of the day was against the host, Wesleyan College. Forsman started the match once again, picking up four points with a 14-4 major decision over Dylan Jones, to get the Cadets going. However, Wesleyan would pick up 14 points on the next four bouts before McCurdy snapped the scoring spree with a tight 8-6 decision over Roy Forys. Wesleyan would record nine more points with a decision and a pin fall, while Norwich picked up a major decision and a decision in the 184 and 285 bouts, but it would not be enough to catch up as Wesleyan held on for the 23-14 dual win.

The Cadets closed out the day with a tough loss to Lycoming, 40-9. Forsman would record his third win on the day after pinning Kyle Drick in 3:57 for the six team points, followed by Giblin's 8-4 decision over Anthony Mancuso for the three team points. Lycoming would generate 40 points with 30 of them coming from pin falls.

Next Sunday, the Cadets will be competing at the New England Wrestling Association Futures Tournament hosted by Roger Williams University before preparing for the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Tournament, hosted by Springfield College.
