ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman Joseph Hennessey (Boonville, N.Y.) of the Norwich University wrestling team captured second place in the 184-pound weight class on Saturday at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational. The Cadets finished the event in ninth place out of 12 competing institutions, earning 58.5 team points.
After picking up a major decision (13-2) over Lycoming's Dakota Pfeiffer, Hennessey pinned Oswego State's Nick Normile (2:22) and turned aside Nicholas Greenquist by a 4-3 decision. Hennessey lost the first-place match by technical fall against Jordan Bushey of Oswego State, who is receiving votes in the national poll (D3Wrestle.com).
Sophomore Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.) placed fifth for the Cadets at 133. He began his day with a major decision over Lycoming's Jacob Chamberlin before pinning Liam Sullivan of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. A 10-0 major decision win preceded another pin by Forsman (1:53), but he was eventually defeated by Stephen Jendritz of WPI by a 10-5 decision. A technical fall win over Wesleyan's Dylan Jones locked up fifth place.
Junior Zachary Gibson (Lithopolis, Ohio) posted three victories at 174 pounds including two via pinfall. His opening match against WPI's Alex Fair ended in 1:40. Senior Benjamin Swanson (Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.) pinned his first two opponents at 157 pounds before dropping a tightly-contested 6-3 decision to Lycoming's Trevor Corl.
Senior David Rogers (Marlborough, Mass.) and junior Frank Girolamo (Stoughton, Mass.) earned two wins apiece with the former winning by major decision twice before losing in the quarterfinals. Girolamo won by fall (2:57) before earning a 3-1 decision over Scranton's Christopher Spurlock.
