Wrestling: Cadets Cop Ninth at Roger Williams Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Norwich University wrestling team captured ninth place against a crowded field at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday, racking up 61.5 team points on the day.

Junior Frank Girolamo (Stoughton, Mass.) was his team's top finisher on the day, earning a third place finish in the 285-pound weight bracket. He was able to defeat Jonah Aurelio from Johnson & Wales (R.I.) via tiebreaker, completing the event with a 5-1 record with his only defeat coming via a 3-1 decision in the semifinals.

Freshman Joseph Hennessey (Boonville, N.Y.) took fourth place at the 184-pound weight bracket, falling in the third place match to Messiah's Ben Swarr by major decision (12-2) after posting a major victory over Connor Humphries from Roger Williams in the consolation semifinal.

Sophomore Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.) earned a sixth-place finish at 133 pounds, falling in just under one minute to Messiah's Hunter Harris in the fifth-place match. Forsman, however, defeated Harris earlier in the day via pinfall (6:38) in the quarterfinal round.

Junior Donte Jones (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also had a strong day for the Cadets, picking up three victories at 165 pounds. He opened the day with a 10-4 win by decision over Merchant Marine's Christian Willoughby before dropping a 7-5 decision in the second round of the championship flight. He rebounded to capture a win over Aaron Cranston in only 25 seconds by pinfall before taking a major decision over Johnson & Wales' Clayton Cobe

Senior David Rogers (Marlborough, Mass.) rallied from a tough first-round defeat to post back-to-back wins in the consolation round at 184 pounds. Sophomore Connor Drouin (O'Fallon, Ill.) would secure two victories by decision while competing in the 285-pound weight class.

The Cadets return to action Wednesday, Nov. 16 as it travels to Castleton University for a 7 p.m. showdown in the Battle for the Green Mountain Championship. More information about the championship will be released at the beginning of the week.
