NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's tennis won its fourth straight match with a 9-0 sweep over Lyndon State on Thursday in non-league action at the Shapiro Field House.
Norwich (5-1, 0-0 GNAC North) won its fourth straight match with the victory, including its third 9-0 sweep over that span.
Freshman Jeff Purdy (Lebanon, N.H.) improved to 6-0 in singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Kyle Burteau at No. 6 singles. He also improved to 6-0 at No. 3 doubles with Jay Carter (Glassboro, N.J.) with an 8-0 win over Dominick Agresta and Michael Desmond.
Senior Ryan Grindle (Essex Junction, Vt.) beat Trevor Updike 6-2. 6-4 at No. 1 singles to improve to 5-1 at the top singles position. Grindle and sophomore Ian Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) took No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 score over Updike and Michael Sigsbury. Hyte beat Tyler Hall 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Marc-Olivier Tourigny (Drummondville, Quebec) defeated Sigsbury 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Senior Patrick Ogden (Madison, Ala.) beat Agresta 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Tourigny and Ogden combined to win No. 2 doubles over Sigsbury and Hall 8-1. Carter took No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Desmond.
Norwich will open up its league schedule on Saturday when it travels to Suffolk University for an 11 a.m. matchup.
