Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The 2015 men's lacrosse season for Norwich University will be filled with firsts and Monday was a big one, as the Cadets played their first game of the season, which ended in a 10-3 defeat at the hands of host UMass-Dartmouth on Bayside Field Monday afternoon.
UMass-Dartmouth took a commanding lead, scoring five unanswered goals in the first period before the Cadets got on the board in the second period. Norwich took the man-up opportunity as senior attackman Seth Fuller (Wheaton, Ill.) scored his first goal of the season at the 4:30 mark to put the Cadets on the board.
After a pair of Corsairs' goals in the third period, Norwich would find the back of the net once again as freshman midfielder Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) scored his first collegiate goal of the season before junior midfielder Jimmy Warden (North Andover, Mass.) scored Norwich's third and final goal of the game.
UMass-Dartmouth, who outshot the Cadets 35-16 in the game, would score three additional goals in the fourth period for the 10-3 win.
Senior midfielder Andrew Bracy (Carthage, N.Y.) would win six of the 15 faceoffs, while freshman Ian Kennedy (Glouchester, Mass.) and Zach Alder (Stratham, N.H.) each collected a team-high four ground balls for the Cadets. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Fecteau (Danvers, Mass.) played all three periods, posting seven saves on 14 shots, while sophomore Chris Gersh (Hudson, N.H.) came up with three saves on six shots in the fourth period.
Six players would score for the Corsairs with junior attackman Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) scoring a team-high four goals. Sophomore netminder Matt Lafond (Bridgewater, Mass.) came up with five saves in between the pipes to collect his first win of the season.
Norwich will wrap up the Spring Break trip on the road on Thursday, March 11 as the Cadets open Great Northeast Athletic Conference play at Anna Maria College for the 5:00 p.m. faceoff.
